Left Border Stationery
page 2

Double click the selection tool on your toolbar      Remember when we wrote down the graphic size?   We'll use it again.   My graphic is 256 wide.   Put 0 in 'left', your graphic width in 'right', 0 in 'top' and the height of your graphic + the 20 we added for the border in 'bottom'.  (My graphic was 192px high + 20px for the border=212px).   Click ok.

If you're used to doing selections by hand, that ok.  Just make sure you select the correct area or your drop shadow will be off and you could end up with that dreaded "line".

You will now see 'marching ants' around your original graphic and the added top and bottom borders.

Go to Effects>>>>3D Effects>>>>Drop Shadow.   You don't have to use my settings, they're just a guide.  Play with the settings to get the effect you want.    hint: if you leave the arrow [auto proof] button depressed when you apply your drop shadow, it seems to 'move' your graphic a few pixels.  Deselect the 2 buttons circled before clicking ok.  With your selection tool still selected, right click on your graphic and the marching ants will go away. (you can also go up to Selections>>>>Select None)

Double click the Crop tool      We'll now remove that top & bottom border we added.   This tool is a little tricky until you get used to using the numbers.   A little review here.......my graphic was 256 x 192 and we added a right border to make it 1030 wide.   So......my finished panel will be 1030 x 192 after cropping.

Place "0" in 'left', "1030" in right, "10" in top and the number in 'bottom' box will be 10 more than your finished height. (mine would be 202)

Click ok.  You'll see solid lines at the top and bottom of your panel.   Place your cursor on your graphic and double click.   It will crop to your finished size.   If you make a mistake, just click on undo and repeat your steps.

Go up to Effects>>>>sharpen>>>>unsharp mask and use the same settings we used before.

Go to File>>>>Export>>>>jpg optimizer.   I usually optimize from 10-30.   You can see your optimization in the right hand window.   If you can't see the left side main image, place your cursor in the right window, click and move it to the right.   If it doesn't look very clear or has 'sparklies' on it, reduce the optimize number a little.    Click ok, name it and save to your stationery folder.   C:program files\common files\microsoft shared\stationery.

You're finished!!    Just run it through the stationery wizard in OE and send.

Click HERE to view finished panel as you would see it in a stationery.
