Configure Yahoo Mail
Pay accounts only
part 3
12. You should still have the Internet Accounts box on your screen. You should also still have the Mail Tab active, if not, click on it. You will see your regular server's (ISP) name and the new one you just created. Click on the new 'account name' to highlight it. Then click Properties. |
13. General Tab: Name the account anything you want. As you can see I have Yahoo (1). In space "2" will be the 'screen name' you entered in Step 8. In space "3" will be your Yahoo email address you entered in Step 9. Make sure there is a checkmark next to 'Include this account......'. Click Apply. DO NOT click OK yet! **Tip** Whenever the word 'Apply' shows black on the button, click on it after making changes. Otherwise, it usually won't save them. (the apply button in the screenshots isn't 'active' because I'm using my own boxes & didn't want to change them) |
14. Servers Tab: Don't change any of the entries here. Everything will already be filled in from the wizard steps. Just make sure you have checkmarks in 'Remember password' and 'My server requires authentication' (Required by Yahoo after 1/15/02). Click Apply. Again, DO NOT click OK yet. |
15. Advanced Tab: Move the
'slider' all the way to the right (1). DO NOT put a checkmark by
"Leave copy on server" (2). Your Yahoo mailbox will fill
up *very* quickly and you've defeated the purpose of configuring it to
come into your main OE mailbox. Click Apply
and NOW you can click OK. |
**Note.....you might want to check your main connection and set the 'time out' to long (1) and make sure you're not leaving a copy of messages on your server (2). If you leave messages on your server, your mailbox fills up twice as fast and your mail will bounce back to the sender. You cannot receive email if your mailbox is full. If you haven't received your normal posts from your email lists, check with the list owner to see if you are in the 'Bounce Section'. **Note.....if you signed up to Yahoo lists/groups with a Hotmail, Yahoo or other free email, you need to go to that site and check your mail, delete it and empty the 'trash' folder. They are very small and fill up fast! **Yahoo webmail is now 100mb (2gig for pay accounts) and Hotmail will up their limit to 250mbs in the fall of 2004. |
Guess what?! You're done!!! Give
yourself a big pat on the back. **Note.....If you want to remove the connection you just set up.......just go to Tools/Accounts. Click on the Mail tab, highlight the account you want to remove........click Remove. Just make sure you don't remove your main account unless you know how to reconfigure it!! |
