Installing Fonts

I offer the tutorials freely to you for learning purposes.  I hope you find them useful.  As always, proceed at your own risk. Read through it first to see if you understand it and always follow them word for word, step by step.  Do not rush or skip any steps. I am only responsible for 'my' errors. *S*

The tutorials are for personal use only.  Please do not modify, redistribute in any manner, place in any collections on websites or CD's for profit or otherwise, link to, remove, or claim as your own any files from these pages.  If you'd like to refer to any of the tutorials, please just provide a link or email me for permission to use the entire tutorial.  All tutorials and graphics were created by me unless otherwise stated.  It's perfectly ok, and encouraged to share the link with a friend who might find them useful.

A lot of websites tell you to unzip fonts directly to the C:/Windows/Fonts folder, but you can get into trouble doing this.  If you save the fonts directly to the C:/Windows/Fonts folder they may not  install properly as the system.ini file needs to be updated properly with all the installed fonts.  To be safe, Install fonts through the Control Panel.  To find out more about fonts, click HERE.  For a list of system fonts, click HERE

***This tutorial was written in/for Win98/98SE, but also applies to WinXP.  The boxes in the screenshots below will look different but the settings are the same.

Download zipfile to your Desktop.  Double click on the zipfile, click on Desktop in the right window.  Click Extract.  Exit out of the Winzip window

Go to Start/Settings/Control Panel
Double Click on Fonts folder

Click on File/Install New Font

In the lower left window, double click on C.  Scroll down until you see Windows and double click on it.  Find Desktop and double click on it.  The fonts(s) that you unzipped to your desktop will show under 'List of Fonts'.  Click on Select All and OK.  Exit out of the fonts window and control panel.  Your fonts are now installed and ready to use.   Go back to your Desktop and drag the zipfile and font(s) to your recycle bin.

HINT:  If you do not have the 'Install New Font' option in your File menu, your Fonts folder has lost its System attribute.
Open an MS-DOS Prompt (Start/Programs/MS DOS PROMPT)  Where it says C:\Windows>  type the following:
attrib +s fonts  (spaces before and after +s)  hit enter
exit  (you may have to type exit - hit enter)
