Clean up Email Message
Before Forwarding/Replying

I offer the tutorials to you for learning purposes.  I hope you find them useful.  As always, proceed at your own risk.  Read through it first to see if you understand it and always follow them word for word, step by step.  Do not rush or skip any steps.  I am only responsible for 'my' errors.  *S*

The tutorials are for personal use only. Please do not modify, redistribute in any manner, place in any collections on websites or CD's for profit or otherwise, link to, remove, or claim as your own any files from these pages. If you'd like to refer to any of the tutorials, please just provide a link or email me for permission to use the entire tutorial. All tutorials and graphics were created by me unless otherwise stated.  It's perfectly ok, and encouraged, to share the link with friends who might find them useful.

***This tutorial was written in/for Win98/98SE, but also applies to WinXP.  The boxes in the screenshots below will look different but the settings are the same.

The first 2 steps will remove the annoying >>>> from your messages when you reply or forward.  If you do not want to remove them, skip to Step 3.

Step 1.  In Outlook Express, click on TOOLS, then OPTIONS.  Click on SEND tab, then click PLAIN TEXT SETTINGS.

Step 2.  This box will pop up.  Click in the red circled box to clear the checkmark.  By unchecking this box, you will not have all the >>> in front of the message your are forwarding or replying to.  This will not remove the >>> that are already there.  It will keep it from adding moreIf you want them there, don't uncheck the box.  Click OK.

Step 3.  Open the message you want to forward, click on VIEW and click on ALL HEADERS.  You will now see a new line Bcc: (Blind carbon copy).  When you put all the email addresses in this line, they will be hidden from everyone you send the message to..........thus you won't be showing all your friends and families email addresses to everyone YOU send to and everyone THEY will send the message to.  This prevents a lot of spam and unwanted extra email.  You also do NOT need to put an address/name in the TO: field if you don't want to.  It will still send just fine.
NOTE:  It is poor netiquette to add someone to your address book and then forward every joke, virus hoax, chain letter to them without asking their permission first.  This can be considered spam.  If someone asks you not to send them forwards, please respect their wishes.

Step 4.  Sometimes a joke or message has been forwarded many times and there will be so many addresses showing, you have to scroll forever to get to the message.  To clean up all the 'garbage' before sending, place your cursor at the beginning of what you want to delete and click.  Scroll down to the end of the part you want to delete, place cursor and hold down your SHIFT key and click.  (All the addresses you see below are not real).

Step 5.  This will highlight everything between the 2 'clicks'.  Hit the DELETE key and all the 'garbage' is gone!!  All you have left is the message, ready to send.
