I offer the tutorials to you

always, proceed at your own risk. Read through it first to
see if you understand it and always follow them word for
word, step by step. Do not rush or skip any steps. I
am only responsible for 'my' errors. *S*

***This tutorial was
written in/for Win98/98SE, but also applies to WinXP. The
boxes in the screenshots below will just different.....settings
are the same. |

It is important to keep your Cache
Files (temporary files) cleaned out or you will get error pages or
"page cannot be displayed" while surfing.
|
|
1. Go to your desktop
and right click on the Internet
Explorer icon (big blue E). The Internet Options box will
pop up. Click on Delete Files. The
2 other buttons circled in red will be used in further
steps.
**You can also open this box by opening your browser (IE), click
on Tools, then Internet Options.

|
|
2. You should now have this
box showing. Click inside the small white square, then click
OK
|
|
3. Wait until the 'hourglass'
goes away. You will be back to box 1 (Internet
Options). Now click on the Settings
button and this box will pop up. Make sure there is NO
'dot' in Never. Any of the top 3 are fine. Now
click on View Files.

|
|
4. After clicking the Settings
button, this window will open. I have a green tablet icon
next to the cookies, but you will likely see the windows notepad
icon. Go up to your toolbar and
click File, then Select
All. Everything will be highlighted. STOP
here and read the **Note** below
before deleting!
**NOTE:
If you do online banking, stocks, etc that require setting
preferences on their websites, DO NOT delete those cookies.
After you have 'selected all', carefully look through the cookies,
then hold down the CTRL key and click on the cookie(s) you want to
keep and it will undo the highlight.** When
you are through selecting the cookies to keep, release the CTRL
key. Review your list before deleting.
Click on the big X
on the toolbar (delete). It will ask you if you want
to send all files to the recycle bin......click yes.
Voila!! Your folder is now empty and
nice and clean.

5. Click OK
to exit the Settings
box in step 3
and you are back to the Internet
Options box again.
|
| 6.
Click on the Clear
History button. This will delete all website
addresses (url's) that you have visited in 'however many days' you
have it set for. You will see a number
next to the Clear History button and
most likely it will say 30 or 31.
Use the little black triangles to
raise or lower the amount of days. The longer you set it
for, the quicker your cache files fill up.

** Notes:
**Clearing
History will clear all the url's you have typed into your address
window in your browser. |
|
**If
you surf quite a bit, you should clear your Temp Internet Files at
least once a day. This will keep you from getting the
"page cannot be displayed" error. Also, if you
visit a specific website often, it will enable you to load the
newest pages by keeping this file clean.
**You
do not have to delete the cookies that often. I usually
clear mine 2-3 times a week.
**If
you set a low number of days to keep History files, you do not
need to clear this one very often.......I do it every month or so.
